Yayasan Healthy Planet Indonesia
(HePI)
HePI integrates conservation and healthcare through community-based projects, breaking the cycle of poverty and deforestation. We equip forest communities to become guardians of their environment, fostering healthy people and healthy forests.
About Us
Healthy Planet Indonesia (HePI)
Was founded in 2020 by Dr. Hotlin Ompusunggu, a dentist and conservationist dedicated to breaking the cycle between poverty and illegal logging through healthcare. After years of successful conservation efforts in Borneo with her co-founded organization Alam Sehat Lestari (ASRI), Hotlin returned to her homeland, Sumatra, to continue her mission of proving that communities and forests can thrive together.
Our Programs
At Healthy Planet Indonesia (HePI), we aim to break the cycle where poor human health and ecosystem degradation feed into each other. Through community-designed solutions, we promote both forest and human health, tackling the core drivers of illegal logging.
The Batang Toru Ecosystem
Our efforts are focused on the Batang Toru Ecosystem, which spans 141,749 hectares of primary forest in North Sumatra’s Tapanuli Districts. This unique ecosystem is the only known habitat of the critically endangered Tapanuli Orangutan, a newly discovered species with only about 800 individuals remaining.
